Planning Application Fees for Hydropower Developments (Scotland)
After some robust lobbying by the BHA of Scottish Government since December 2017, on the issue of significantly increased planning fees for hydro, the BHA is pleased to confirm that to address this issue, Scottish Government has decided to create a new category within the fee regulations for hydro development with the fee set at £401 per 0.1 hectare subject to a maximum of £20,055, compared to the originally proposed fee level set at £401 per 0.1 Hectare for first 5 hectares then £200 per hectare up to a maximum of £125,000.
Although the regulations have been brought forward as timeously as possible, there are set timescales which need to be followed and taking into account the Easter parliamentary recess, the new category will come into effect on the 24th of May 2018.
The Chief Planning Officer, John McNairney, has written to all Planning Authorities to encourage them to do what they can to assist applicants for hydro development schemes when submitting their applications prior to the new regulations coming into effect, so that the viability of those schemes is not adversely affected.
