Non-domestic rates: application for renewable energy generation relief – Scotland 2018-19

As you will know from previous BHA communications, the Scottish Government have put in place a business rates relief scheme for hydropower stating from the 1st of April.

Where the rateable value of your hydropower generating station/s does not exceed £5 million you may be entitled to a rates reduction of 60% for 2018-19. This is referred to as ‘Renewable Energy Generation Relief’ and an application form, from, or on behalf of the ratepayer, is required to apply for this relief and is available from your local council.

This straightforward form requires the property reference number (to be found on the rates bill), the rateable value and address details, including postcode. There will also be a declaration that will need signing by the owner, tenant, or representative / agent.

Details of the legislation can be found at this link – www.legislation.gov.uk/ssi/2018/64/contents/made
