Membership is open to all commercial organisations involved with hydropower as well as all stakeholders, community groups, academia, private individuals and other interested parties.
Members with an interest in generation will benefit directly from our lobbying activities, particularly because we act on behalf of a large group of stakeholders as a unified voice when negotiating with policy- makers and regulators.
Suppliers of services and equipment will benefit greatly from the networking opportunities we create, both at home and overseas, and the support we provide to the industry with respect to exporting prospects.
The BHA works in tandem with UK Trade and Investment, overseas Embassy and High Commission staff and other government departments to ensure the swift dissemination of enquiries and information.
This combined approach brings strength to the industry when working overseas and the BHA is actively involved in the organisation of missions to foreign markets and provision of UK hydropower stands at major exhibitions.
Members from all areas of the industry are reliant on each other and so we must strive to work together in order to ensure a prosperous future for hydropower. Whatever your area of activity within the hydro industry, BHA membership will enhance your operations and add value to your organisation by demonstrating professionalism in the way it conducts business.
On behalf of all of its members, the BHA will:
- Provide opportunities to influence responses to public and industry consultations and to participate in meetings, both regional and national (including the AGM).
- Act as a unified voice for the UK hydropower industry, communicating with the government and other key decision-makers and responding to consultations in a coherent and authoritative way.
- Assist the delivery of key initiatives and develop industry standards, guidance and codes of best practice by providing specialist advice and expertise in several industry, government, parliamentary and regulatory Working Groups in groups.
- Conduct research and disseminate information quickly and effectively so that members can keep abreast of developments within the industry.
- Offer networking opportunities and provide a forum for effective dialogue between members and other stakeholder groups.
Along with the specific membership-level services detailed in the membership packages, the benefits of membership include:
- Regular electronic newsletters and access to the Members Areas on the BHA website
- Members discounted rates for delegates at BHA events
- Discount packages on various journals and insurances
The BHA is involved with several other groups e.g. the European Small Hydropower Association (ESHA), Scottish Renewables and the Scottish Government's Forum for Renewable Energy Development (FREDS), and has close links with academic and professional institutions.
There are seven different levels of membership, each one offering the above services along with additional tailored services to suit different types of member. The fees reflect the level of service required by members. If you have an interest in the ongoing development of the hydropower industry then join the BHA today and lend your support to enable us to achieve our prime objective, which is to promote a sustainable hydropower industry in the UK and secure a long and rewarding future for hydropower - the world's No. 1 renewable energy.
