Details :
From 1836 to 1926 Maidenholme Forge Mill was an iron forge/granite polishing mill utilising three water wheels. The iron forge produced agricultural and granite quarrying implements. This actively ceased in 1916 when generators were installed on the water wheels and a reversible pump installed to produce DC current for two other nearby mills and electric lighting for Dalbeattie. This ceased in 1926. New owners installed a Gilkes Horizontal Francis Turbine in 1946. This plant has been refurbished and is still running today, producing domestic power for the Mill complex.
