Cwm Clydach

Cwmclydach Communities First commissioned Pico Energy Ltd to undertake this project to build a micro-hydro scheme on the site of a former colliery.  The intake is a coanda screen, used for its ability to prevent fish and debris entering the system. The water then flows through a 1 km  pipeline before entering the high head pelton turbine-generator system. The electricity generated is being exported to the grid. This is phase 1 of the project completed, and the group are now keen to start phase 2, a larger hydro installation further up the same valley.
